Panthers fall to #2 Heritage 8-3

#2 Heritage 8 - Jackson County 3
Second ranked Heritage traveled to Jefferson and got more of a battle than they bargained for from the homestanding Panthers.  Matt Broom pitched 6 1/3 innings, only giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits, including keeping reigning region 8-AAAA player of the year Tyler Austin hitless with 2 strikeouts.  The Panthers outhit Heritage 9-6, but stranded too many runners on base.  After getting down 3-0, the Panthers tied the score at 3-3 after 4 innings.  In the bottom of the 6th, the Panthers had an opportunity to score, but Matt Bolt’s line drive to right field was run down.  Up 5-3 in the 7th inning, Heritage loaded the bases with 1 out.  A walk and a single scored 3 runs.  After another walk, Nick Oney came on in relief with the bases loaded and coaxed a pop-up for the final out.  Sean Johnson got a leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth, but was stranded.
